
Weed, Whateley Lead The Bulldogs In Opening Day Of SEC Championship

BELLEAIR, Fla. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs concluded the opening round of the SEC Championship on Monday tied for seventh place. A pair of sophomore Bulldogs sit in the top 10 individually.
Avery Weed opened the tournament with a 3-under round, the third time she has finished under-par in her last four rounds. She collected six birdies throughout her day, including a pair on the final two holes of the day. Weed enters the second round of the tournament in a tie for sixth place.
Samantha Whateley had a solid outing in her SEC Championship debut, concluding the round inj a tie for ninth. She finished the opening round at 2-under par, carding six birdies as well. The 68 on the scorecard ties the lowest round of Whateley's career, which she shot twice on a par-72 course at the Chevron Collegiate.
As a team, the Bulldogs sit at 3-over after the opening day of the tournament, which currently puts them above the eight-team cutline for the match play portion of the tournament. Only five teams finished the opening round under-par. The Bulldogs are tied with Tennessee heading into the second round. They both sit above Texas A&M, who State has faced the past two seasons in the Championship match.
The second round of the SEC Championship will begin tomorrow. The Bulldogs will begin teeing off at 7:50 a.m. CT on Tuesday. Live scoring for the tournament is available at golfstat.com
