Bair Sets Decathlon World Lead In Texas
April 13, 2025 | Track & Field
The combined events athletes had a strong showing in College Station, with Kennedy Jackson concluding the heptathlon and Peyton Bair finishing the decathlon.
Bair started off the events for the day, winning the 110m hurdles with 14.06. He followed that in the field events, throwing 39.93m in the discus, jumping 4.80m in the pole vault, and hurling a personal best of 56.66m in the javelin. The day concluded in the 1500m, where he finished with a 4:44.54 effort. His performances throughout the weekend culminated in an 8,111-point total, just 20 points from his personal best and program record. Bair demolished the field by over 500 points, setting a new meet record, collegiate lead and world lead.
Jackson set a personal best in the heptathlon, combining for a total of 5,470 points. She jumped 5.88m in the long jump for 813 points and threw a personal javelin best of 3.53m for 582 points. Jackson closed the deal in the 800m, running 2:23.15, adding 781 points to finish fourth overall. Her performance solidifies her as the fourth highest point total in program history in the heptathlon.
Tuscaloosa had tons of action in both the throws and on the track, with the day starting in the javelin. Rémi Rougetet opened his senior season in the javelin, throwing 72.37m to finish as the top collegian in the field. Tuomäs Närhi finished closely behind, extending his collegiate best to 69.67m. Kaylee Clark extended her season's best and MSU No. 3 all-time mark to 48.86m, finishing as the top collegian in the field.
On the track, the mid-distance squad put up some significant performances on Saturday afternoon. Ramat Jimoh got the ball rolling in the 800m, running a massive personal best of 2:04.60, shedding 7 seconds off her previous best, and is just milliseconds off the MSU all-time performance list. Gabrielle Boulay finished the 1500m similarly, dropping four seconds off her best to run 4:25.23 in the 1500m.
The day ended in the men's 1500m, with NCAA Indoor 800m runner-up Abdullahi Hassan competing in his first race of the season. In his first 1500m race as a Bulldog, Hassan ran 3:42.95 for the event win and a new personal best. His time is now the second-fastest in program history and the fastest time the program has seen since 2016.
The Bulldogs will return to competition next weekend, competing in two events: the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem and the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville.
