Strong Second Half Leads State To Victory Over Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – Mississippi State earned a crucial road victory over Auburn by a score of 73-66. The Bulldogs came out on fire in the second half to help secure the win.
Auburn started strong in the contest, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-9 in the first quarter. Headed into the half, the Tigers held a seven-point lead over State.
The Bulldogs came back onto the court on fire, as they jumped out to an 8-0 run in just a minute and a half and forced Auburn to call a timeout. State outscored the Tigers 25-14 in the third quarter and extended their lead by outscoring Auburn by three in the final ten minutes.
Eniya Russell led the Bulldogs in scoring off the bench, as she finished with 19 points and six rebounds, including 5-6 shooting from the charity stripe and 7-12 from the floor. This was the 20th time Russell has finished in double figures this season.
Jerkaila Jordan picked up 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the contest. Chandler Prater earned 12 points and four rebounds, including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
Debreasha Powe was a crucial part of the 8-0 run the Dawgs started the second half on, as she collected six of those points from beyond the arch. She finished with 11 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday as the tenth seed in Greenville, South Carolina in the opening round of the SEC Tournament when they take on the fifteenth seed, Missouri Tigers. Tipoff for the contest is set for 6 p.m.
