February 09, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – A second-half surge was not enough for the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday, as they fell to the No. 23/23 Alabama Crimson Tide, 80-60.
Alabama started the game on fire, as they knocked down their first five shots and jumped out the game on a 19-4 run. The Crimson Tide shot 71.4 percent in the first quarter, and 60 percent in the first half alone. Alabama led the game by 25 at the halfway point.
The Bulldogs fought back in the second half, trimming the deficit down to as little as 13. State forced 13 of Bama's 22 turnovers in the second half, while only turning it over themselves two times in that span.
Debreasha Powe led the Bulldog offense with 14 points, knocking down a pair of triples. Madina Okot collected 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Denim DeShields matched Okot's tenacity on the defensive side of the ball, as she collected three steals of her own.
Destiney McPhaul collected ten points on 50 percent shooting on the contest for State. Jerkaila Jordan and Chandler Prater both finished the game with eight points. Prater shot 50 percent from the field as well, while Jordan brought in six steals, four assists and three rebounds.
The Bulldogs face another top-25 foe in the form of No. 24/24 Vanderbilt on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on the SEC Network.
