
Sessom Breaks Program Record On Day Two

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State track and field concluded the second day for the SEC Indoor Championships with solid performances in the oval, ring and runway.
The day began in the field events, with the women's weight throw and men's high jump. Marie Rougetet tossed the weight 18.22m for a new personal best in her second weight competition ever. Sherman Hawkins scored the first points for the men's team, jumping a season's best 2.16m to tie for seventh.
On the track, Kyndall Sessom ran 7.37 in the 60m for the new program record. Sessom's time was short of making the final, but she solidified herself as the fastest woman in MSU history in the event. Nicholas Fakorede earned the team's first final berth, running 6.63 to qualify for the final on Saturday. Two personal bests were earned for Jessicka Woods and Madison Gardner in the women's 400m.
The men's 800m group saw two finals berths in Abdullahi Hassan and Sam Navarro, both to make their SEC finals debuts Saturday evening. Ramat Jimoh just missed the cutoff for the finals, 0.17 seconds off the next fastest time qualififer to finish ninth.
Competition will resume tomorrow afternoon in the men's shot put.
