Indoor Postseason To Begin In College Station
February 26, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field will begin their postseason campaign at the SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by Texas A&M.
"We are excited to head into the conference championship focused on the task at hand," said head coach Chris Woods. "The team has been training for this moment since  September, and are ready to put the puzzle pieces together to achieve the goals set before them."
The men's squad sits at No. 15 on the USTFCCCA National TFRI list heading into the conference championship. The team also has two squads in the top ten of the #EventSquad rankings and a national lead in the decathlon from Peyton Bair.
State will be the second trip to Texas A&M this season, following the appearance at the Charlie Thomas Weekend earlier this month. The Bulldogs saw three program records fall, with Bair in the decathlon, Abdullahi Hassan in the mile and Jaitlyn Ware in the 200m. There were two entries into the all-time top five lists, with Kyndall Sessom in the 60m and Kennedy Jackson in the pentathlon. All five Bulldogs will compete in the championship meet.
The SEC Championship will be the first meet featuring all 16 teams in the conference in one meet. The SEC is a dominant force in collegiate track and field, with eight teams on the men's side ranked in the top 25 on the National TFRI list, and nine teams on the women's, with both sides led by Arkansas.
At last year's SEC Championships, State walked away with two runner-up finishes, with alumni Tyrese Reid in the 800m and Sherman Hawkins in the high jump. Hawkins is set to compete in the high jump at the conference championship, with hopes to improve to the conference title. Alumni Rosealee Cooper and Jhordyn Stallworth finished fifth in the 60m hurdles and shot put, respectively. After making her first conference final last year, Tafada Wright looks to improve on her finish in the conference standings this weekend. Kennedy Jackson, who finished fifth in the pentathlon last season, and is currently seeded sixth in the conference, will compete in her final collegiate indoor conference championship.
