Bulldogs Set to Travel to Ruston for Showdown with Louisiana Tech

STARKVILLE – State soccer is hitting the road once again, this time heading to Ruston, Louisiana, for a Thursday evening showdown with Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are set to kickoff against the Lady Techsters at 6 p.m. and will look to continue their strong start to the 2024 season.
Mississippi State (5-1-0) enters the match riding a wave of momentum after securing back-to-back 1-nil victories over Tennessee Tech and South Alabama during last week's home stand. The Bulldog defense has been a cornerstone of the team's early success, recording five clean sheets in their first six matches and allowing just two goals all season.
Offensively, State has seen contributions from a wide array of contributors, with nine different Bulldogs registering a goal this season. Junior midfielder Ally Perry notched her second career game-winner in the recent victory over South Alabama, while senior forward Aitana Martinez-Montoya continues to lead the attack with two goals on the season.
On the other side of the pitch, Louisiana Tech (2-1-3) will be looking to build on their home advantage, where they have posted a 2-1-1 record this season. Thursday's matchup will mark only the second time that the Bulldogs have traveled to Ruston in program history with the first meeting between Bulldogs coming in 2017. In the last meeting in Ruston, State took advantage of a 84th minute PK to capture a 1-nil victory.
Louisiana Tech entered their 2024 campaign picked sixth in the CUSA Preseason Poll after finishing sixth within the conference in 2023. Kyra Taylor returns to Ruston after a stellar debut season where she was named 2023 CUSA Freshman of the Year and earned First-Team All-Conference. Head Coach Steve Voltz is in his third season with Louisana Tech and eighth year as a head coach where he currently holds a 77-44-14 career record.
