Mississippi State Downs Georgia In Series Opener

STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State University baseball team won game one of the SEC series against the University of Georgia, 6-1, on Friday night at Dudy Noble Field. State allowed only five hits and struck out nine.
Khal Steven drew the start on the mound and earned his fourth win on the season. He only allowed five hits and one run while striking out seven in the process in 6 2/3 innings of work. Cam Schuelke had a strong closing as he pitched 2 1/3 innings and did not give up any hits or runs to earn the save.
Connor Hujsak and David Mershon led the way at the plate tonight for the Diamond Dawgs. Hujsak went 1-for-3 and recorded three RBIs because of his three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. Mershon went 2-for-4 and stole a base. Amani Larry, Hunter Hines, and Logan Kohler also contributed one RBI apiece for the Dawgs.
Mississippi State is back in action against Georgia tomorrow for game two of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
