No. 21 MSU Travels to Missouri for Second Conference Road Trip
September 29, 2022 | Soccer
COLUMBIA – The unbeaten Mississippi State soccer program hits the road again Friday night for a matchup with the Missouri Tigers (4-5-1, 1-2 SEC). The contest will kick off at 7 p.m. CT on SECN+.
"We are looking forward to playing a very physical, aggressive and organized Missouri team," head coach James Armstrong said. "Right now, we're focusing on fine-tuning some of the finer details on both sides of the ball in order to be better than we were against LSU."
Â
MSU hits the road for the second time in conference play. Eleven matches in, the Bulldogs are off to their best start in program history. Additionally, State sits at 3-0-0 to start the SEC portion of the schedule with all nine points coming from a divisional opponent.
Â
Missouri enters the match having dropped a 2-0 contest to Vanderbilt. For 86 minutes, the Tigers were able to keep the Commodores off the scoreboard. However, with three minutes left in the game, Vandy put two past the Mizzou keeper to steal all three points from the conference table.
Â
The Dawgs pushed their unbeaten streak out to 11-straight matches after outlasting the LSU Tigers, 3-2. The 9-0-2 start is the best through 11 matches in program history for Mississippi State. For the third time in 2022, State recorded three or more goals - its first of the night being the second-fastest goal scored all season. Gwen Mummert, Maggie Wadsworth and Haley McWhirter all scored for the Bulldogs.
