STARKVILLE – With SEC play looming on the schedule, Mississippi State soccer will face its final non-conference opponent on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs (6-0-0) will kick off against Louisiana Tech (7-1-0) at 1 p.m. CT with the match airing on SEC Network+.
Â
State has shutout five of its first six opponents, but the Lady Techsters will pose one of its toughest tests. Louisiana Tech entered the weekend leading the nation in points (64) and tied for the national lead in goals (21). They are also riding a six-game winning streak for the fourth time in their program's history.
Â
"Louisiana Tech is a very good team who gave us everything and more that we could handle (last year)," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "They have good players, are well-coached and win a lot of games. Sunday will be very difficult."
Â
Last season, MSU went on the road to Ruston and escaped with a 1-0 win thanks to a penalty-kick goal in the 84th minute.
Â
This year's Bulldog squad comes into the match tied for fourth in the nation in goals (20) and tied for fifth in shutout percentage (.833). State is looking to win all of its non-conference matches for just the third time in program history and the first time since 2012.
Â
Up to 200 Hail State Rewards points are available for Sunday's game along with 150 Bully's Kids Club points. The program will give away free chicken biscuits to the first 150 fans in attendance.
Â
MSU is one of 11 teams left in the country to have won every game it's played. The Bulldogs open SEC play on Friday with an even tougher match at Auburn, which has also won every game on its schedule. That match kicks off a stretch of four games against teams that landed in the top five of the conference's preseason coaches' poll.
