No. 24 Bulldogs Ready for In-State Rival Ole Miss; Host Final Midweek at Nusz on Tuesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Playing four games in as many days, No. 24 Mississippi State softball (30-11, 4-8 SEC) kicks off the stretch traveling to Oxford, Miss., to face in-state rival Ole Miss (21-16, 4-11 SEC) in a three-game series before returning to Nusz Park on Tuesday to host Memphis (29-12) for MSU's final home midweek contest.
In a Saturday-Sunday-Monday series, the Bulldogs opened the weekend in Oxford on Saturday, April 14 with a 7 p.m. CT first pitch on the SEC Network +, available on WatchESPN and the WatchESPN+. The final two games of the series feature national broadcasts as the two squads will face off on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 15 and Monday, April 16's series finale airing on the SEC Network at 6 p.m. CT.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Bulldogs as they return home on Tuesday, April 17 to host Memphis in the final midweek contest of the season at Nusz Park. First pitch on the SEC Network + is set for 6 p.m. CT.
MSU holds more victories over Ole Miss than any other SEC opponents as the Bulldogs enter the weekend series with a 39-26 record. The Rebels hold the series advantage of late, winning six of the last seven meetings. Turning attention to the Tigers of Memphis, MSU has won all seven meetings, including taking a 7-1 win on the road back in March.
State looks to keep its offense rolling as the Bulldogs knocked off Alcorn State, 11-0, in five innings on Tuesday night behind the 14th shutout of the season by the MSU pitching staff.
Pitching has been a key to State's success as the Bulldogs head into the final stretch of the regular-season. The Bulldogs' 14 shutouts are the most by a pitching staff since the 2014 season. MSU holds a 1.65 ERA in the circle, which is good for fifth in the SEC and 14th across all of Division I softball.
Senior Holly Ward is the anchor of the staff, pitching a team-leading 107.1 innings behind an 11-4 record and three saves. The right-hander has tossed five shutouts this season, the sixth-most in MSU single-season history, and ranks 13th in the conference with a 1.50 earned run average.
Offensively, no one of the squad has been hotter at the plate than freshman Mia Davidson. She is the lone Bulldog this season to record 30 or more hits, runs scored and RBIs. Davidson ranks in the top 10 in the conference in nine offensive categories, including leading the league in total bases (112), slugging percentage (.868), home runs (14) and home runs per game (0.34).

Just 41 games into her freshman season, Mia Davidson has already etched her name into the record books. Davidson slugged her 13th home run of the season during the Bulldogs midweek contest versus Alcorn State on April 10, which moves her into a tie for fourth all-time in single-season history with Kellie Wilkerson (2001).
Her 14 home runs are just three shy of tying Kellie Wilkerson (2005) for the MSU freshman record.

Holly Ward's impressive start to her senior season has moved her into the MSU career record book.
