MSU To Host Ole Miss For Nationally-Televised Magnolia Cup On Sunday
October 21, 2017 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – This year's edition of the Magnolia Cup will be a bit more important on Sunday, as Mississippi State is looking to improve its standing for the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs (8-4-3, 2-4-2 SEC) host in-state rival Ole Miss (10-4-2, 3-4-1) in the 23rd meeting between the two squads that dates back to MSU's first season in 1995. The match is nationally-televised on SEC Network with Trey Bender and former U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper Jill Loyden on the call.
With a result, State can become one step closer to solidifying its spot in the conference tournament for the first time since 2004.
Ole Miss leads the series 13-6-3. In Starkville, however, the series has been tightly contested, with the Rebels leading the series 5-4-1.
