MSU Sweeps Alcorn State In Season-Opening Doubleheader

STARKVILLE, Miss. – On the opening day of the 2016 spring slate, the 29th-ranked Mississippi State (2-0) women's tennis team dominated Alcorn State (0-2) in 7-0 and 5-0 victories on a sunny winter afternoon.
“The girls did a great job today,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “We were a little tight in a couple positions in the beginning, but played better as the day progressed. Overall it was a solid effort and a good way to start the season.”
MSU started the day with a dominating performance in doubles play, as the State tandem of sophomore Madison Harrison and senior veteran Georgiana Patrasc defeated Alcorn's paring of Aida Kelic and Siobhan Ryan-Bovey 6-0 at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot, the Bulldog's duo of sophomore Jennifer Brown and freshman Anastasia Rentouli posted a 6-2 victory against the Lady Brave's team of Ivana Boberic and Kate Potapova.
The Maroon and White sophomore duo of Louise Ronaldson and Kristina Vozniak defeated ASU's team of Klavdija Bukovic and Aakansha Punj 6-1, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead before beginning singles play.
MSU's Harrison got her first start at the No. 1 position, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Lady Brave's Kelic. Senior Patrasc defeated ASU's Boberic at the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-0.
The 36th-ranked Rentouli downed Alcorn's Ryan-Bovey at the No. 3 position in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 position, Vozniak took down ASU's Kate Potapova 6-2, 6-0.
MSU's Brown defeated ASU's Punj in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 position. At the No. 6 position, State's Ronaldson defeated Alcorn's Bukovic 6-0, 7-5.
After a short break, MSU kicked off the second leg of Saturday's double header in similar fashion as the duo of Harrison and Patrasc posted a 6-0 victory against ASU's Boberic and Potapova at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 position, the 53rd-ranked tandem of Brown and Vozniak defeated Alcorn's Kelic and Ryan-Bovey 6-1.
At the No. 3 position, the duo of freshman Caroline Kelly and Rentouli also posted a 6-0 victory against the Alcorn duo of Marlene Maier and Punj.
In singles, Harrison represented MSU at the No. 1 position again, posting another straight-sets victory versus ASU's Boberic 6-0, 6-1. Patrasc, Rentouli and Brown all posted 6-0, 6-0 victories against their Alcorn opponents.
The matches for Vozniak and Kelly were suspended after Rentouli's victory on court three which clinched the 5-0 victory.
