No. 44 State Women?s Tennis Falls At No. 5 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – Mississippi State's 44th-ranked women's tennis team had a tough afternoon Sunday on the road, dropping a 7-0 decision to No. 5 Georgia.
MSU dropped to 14-9 and 4-8 in the SEC with the loss, while Georgia earned its ninth home win of the season, improving to 17-4 overall and 10-1 in the SEC. The defeat was also MSU's first shutout setback of the season.
Georgia got off to a fast start in doubles and never surrendered the momentum. MSU's tandem of Martina Frantova and Georgiana Patrasc fell 8-2 on court one to the 21st-ranked UGA duo of Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez. Georgia then clinched the match on court two, as the 17th-ranked duo of Silvia Garcia and Kennedy Shaffer down MSU's Jennifer Brown and Louise Ronaldson 8-1.
Doubles play was suspended on No. 3 following the clinch, where State's Timea Guibe and Naomi Tran were trailing 6-4 to UGA's Laura Patterson and Hannah King.
Georgia carried its momentum into singles, taking all six first sets. State's Guibe fell to 104th-ranked Caroline Brinson 6-0, 6-0 on court six, followed by a tough 6-1, 6-4 loss for MSU's 81st-ranked Patrasc on court two against UGA's 62nd-ranked Perez, making the score 3-0. Georgia earned the clinch on court one, where UGA's eighth-ranked Lauren Herring downed 56th-ranked MSU sophomore Lee 6-2, 6-2.
Play continued following the clinch, as MSU's Brown fell 6-0, 6-3 to 79th-ranked Hannah King on court five. Georgia earned two more wins to close out the match, as Mariana Gould earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over MSU's 124th-ranked Ronaldson on court four and State's Frantova fell 6-1, 6-1 on court three to UGA's 58th-ranked Kennedy Shaffer.
State's women will conclude the regular season at No. 26 Ole Miss on Saturday, April 11, in Oxford with the 2015 SEC Championship to follow April 15-19 in Columbia, S.C.
