STARKVILLE, Miss. - Saturday night's Mississippi State-Alabama Southeastern Conference baseball game was suspended due to heavy rains and possible tornadoes in the Oktibbeha County area.
MSU led 7-3 in the top of the sixth inning when play was halted. The teams will resume that nine-inning contest at noon CT Sunday at Dudy Noble Field. The series finale will be played 30 minutes after the completion of that contest. The second game Sunday will be a seven-inning contest.
In Saturday night's action, Alabama built a 2-0 lead with two scores in the top of the first inning.
The Bulldogs responded with a seven-run bottom of the first inning. It is the second time this season that MSU has had a seven-run inning this season.
That big first inning included an RBI-single by Scott DeLoach, an RBI-double by Connor Powers, a three-run double by Jason Nappi and an RBI-single by Jet Butler.
After the big first inning, both pitchers settled down and worked effectively. For MSU, Nick Routt threw five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (all earned), while for UA, Del Howell worked four straight scoreless innings after the big first inning. For the game, Howell had allowed seven hits and seven runs (six earned).
