Terry Prentice was named Deputy Athletics Director for Bulldog Athlete Services on Sept. 11, 2023. In this role, he provides leadership and oversight of critical, student-facing areas including academics, athlete brand services, counseling and sport psychology, letterwinner engagement, sports medicine, sports nutrition, sports science, strength and conditioning, and student-athlete experience. He also serves as a liaison to campus partners, is the sport administrator for football, and leads football scheduling.
Prentice joined Mississippi State from the University of Arkansas, where he most recently served as Senior Associate Athletics Director (2021-2023), and was a member of the Athletic Director's Cabinet and Senior Staff. He led the athlete brand development unit, which managed name, image, and likeness (NIL) activities and initiatives, and served as the sport administrator for the men's and women's track and field and cross-country programs. During his tenure, the department achieved three consecutive top-15 finishes in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, led by three NCAA championships and 23 SEC championships.
Prentice’s previous roles at the University of Kansas and the Razorback Foundation honed his skills in fundraising, revenue generation, organizational leadership, and sport administration. While at Kansas (2018-2021), he served on the Executive Staff, Senior Staff, and the External Leadership Team. In this role, he focused on major gift fundraising, administered External Leadership Team meetings, led initiatives and special projects with human resources and student-athlete development, and served as the sport administrator for men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country.
With the Razorback Foundation (2014-2018), Prentice helped drive record-breaking fundraising success, including more than $165 million raised and the organization’s three highest-giving years (FY15, FY16, FY17). He secured support for several major campaigns, including a $160 million renovation and expansion of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, as well as various track and field projects, including the $15 million Frank O'Mara Track & Field High-Performance Center and a $5 million renovation to the Randal Tyson Track Center. Additionally, he led priority seating for football and men’s basketball, and parking operations for football, men’s basketball, and baseball.
He gained additional experience in external relations, academic support, and student-athlete engagement during earlier stints with the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation and the University of Arkansas.
Prentice was a student-athlete at Arkansas, earning All-SEC and Honorable Mention All-American honors in the decathlon. From 2009-12, he helped the program claim five SEC championships in indoor and outdoor track and field and served as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A native of Pomona, California, Prentice earned his bachelor's degree in history in 2012 and master's degree in sports management in 2014 from the University of Arkansas. He and his wife, Deanna, have a son, Tristan (2).
