One of the best Bulldogs to ever wear the maroon and white, Mia Davidson-Smith remained in Starkville as a graduate student coach following the 2022 season. Davidson-Smith assists with travel operations, equipment and scouting.
Most recently, Davidson-Smith represented the United States at the Pan American Championships, winning gold. She batted .412 through the nine-game event while launching three home runs. She drove in 13 runs and walked 10 times.
Davidson-Smith completed her rookie season of professional softball with Athletes Unlimited in the summer of 2022. She finished 21st on the league’s leaderboard with 1,280 points. Davidson-Smith finished the year ranked sixth in the league in OPS (1.184), while tying for fifth in homers (4), tying for fourth in walks (11) and leading her peers with four hit-by-pitches. Seven of her 10 hits on the year went for extra bases, leading to a .694 slugging percentage that was seventh in the league.
In her final collegiate season, Davidson-Smith was named the NFCA Catcher of the Year and a unanimous First Team All-American. She finished her career tied for third in NCAA history and holding the SEC record with 92 career homers. In the MSU record book, she is the all-time leader in games played and started (270), slugging percentage (.775), home runs (92), runs (219), RBIs (220), total bases (610), hit-by-pitches (57), runners picked off (13), defensive chances (1759), putouts (1555) and runners thrown out (57; 44 CS, 13 PO). She had 69 career multi-hit games, which is fourth in MSU history, and holds the school record with 56 multi-RBI games
Davidson-Smith was an All-American in 2019 as well and finished in the top 10 in USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year voting. The year prior saw her finish in the top 10 for the NFCA National Freshman of the Year award and she was named the SEC Freshman of the Year. She was a three-time First Team All-SEC selection and earned at least NFCA All-Region honors in every season that she was eligible.
Academically, Davidson-Smith was named to the SEC Honor Roll every season and earned First Team Academic All-American honors from CoSIDA. Davidson-Smith graduated with her degree in kinesiology in May 2021 and is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration. During her playing career, she interned with MSU’s athletics communications and marketing departments and interned in the softball operations staff in her final semester.
Davidson-Smith married Sean Smith on Dec. 13, 2021. She is the daughter of Eddie and Christina Davidson, and she played alongside her sister Montana while at MSU.
