Chance Tabbed To Tony Gwynn Trophy Starting 9
May 07, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE – Bryce Chance has certainly made an impact in Mississippi State's lineup, outfield and on the base paths throughout his career.
But the graduate was recently recognized for his contributions off the field as well. Chance was selected to the Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy Starting 9. The award is in its second year and recognizes student-athletes who are active in service and volunteerism in their communities.
Chance has regularly volunteered his time with both the Miracle and Challenger Baseball Leagues in the greater Golden Triangle area for the past four years. The Miracle and Challenger Leagues provide avenues for children and adults with special needs with an avenue to play baseball and Chance has been instrumental in assisting with camps and games.
This cause is near and dear to Chance. His older brother, Brooks, is autistic and is an active participant in the games that Chance volunteers at along with his Mississippi State teammates.
In addition to the Miracle and Challenger Leagues, Chance has also volunteered his time with the local Salvation Army and makes annual visits to Batson's Children's Hospital in Jackson.
Chance is the lone member of Mississippi State's roster that played for the Bulldogs prior to 2025. The Ridgeland native walked onto the team and redshirted in 2022 but has appeared in 205 games and made 189 starts as an outfielder in the four seasons since.
The lifelong MSU fan has maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while also hitting .327 with 47 doubles, two triples, 14 homers, 132 RBIs and 35 steals over the course of his career.
Chance currently currently second in the SEC with 18 doubles and a .372 batting average (.365) and tops MSU with 12 steals. He has only struck out 13 times all season. In SEC play, he's batting .371 and has only fanned nine times in 110 plate appearances.
Chance married his wife, Abby, during the offseason this past July.
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) board members along with select college baseball coaches and national media members will choose the Tony Gwynn Trophy winner from the nine finalists. The winner will be announced during the College World Series in June.
