No. 6 State Spins Third One-Hitter Of The Season
March 17, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - Sixth-ranked Mississippi State delivered another overpowering performance Tuesday, rolling past Jackson State 17-1 in seven innings at Dudy Noble Field as the 10-run rule brought an early end to the contest.
The Diamond Dawgs (17-4) combined explosive offense with dominant pitching, recording their third one-hitter of the season while piling up 12 hits and taking advantage of five Jackson State errors.
MSU set the tone immediately in the first inning, loading the bases before Noah Sullivan and Reed Stallman each lifted sacrifice flies to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The advantage quickly grew in the second, as State capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to push across four runs, highlighted by Stallman's two-run single.
The Bulldogs never let up. In the third, Jacob Parker doubled and later scored, and the fourth inning turned into a decisive blow. The Diamond Dawgs erupted for five runs, with RBI contributions from Gehrig Frei and Parker before Bryce Chance capped the inning with a two-run double to extend the lead to 12-0.
On the mound, Mississippi State was nearly flawless. Starter Maddox Miller allowed the lone hit over two scoreless innings while striking out three. Parker Rhodes (1-0) followed with two perfect innings to earn the win. Jackson State's only run came in the fifth on a bases-loaded fielder's choice, but the Bulldogs' bullpen quickly shut the door, as Tyler Pitzer and Brendan Sweeney finished off two hitless frames.
MSU answered in the bottom of the fifth with another five-run surge to put the game out of reach. Drew Wyers delivered the biggest swing with a three-run double, while Kevin Milewski and Frei added RBIs in the inning.
Parker led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Frei added two hits and scored twice, while Wyers drove in three. Aidan Teel reached base four times and crossed the plate three times as State showcased its depth throughout the lineup.
The Diamond Dawgs are set to host their first SEC series at home this weekend against Vanderbilt. The series begins on Friday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network.
