State Rides Early Lead To Shutout Win At Missouri
September 26, 2025 | Soccer
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 15 Mississippi State scored early and often on its way to a 3-0 win at Missouri on Friday night. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 8-1-1 (3-0-1 SEC) and assured that they will finish the regular season with a winning record.
The first half saw two high quality goals from the Bulldogs to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Ally Perry opened the scoring in the fifth minute. After playing a short corner in to Alivia Buxton, Perry received the ball and shot from well out wide near the corner flag. The ball curled inside the far post for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
"I'm really proud of the performance from the group tonight," head coach Nick Zimmerman said. "All week we challenged them to be a little more patient higher up the field and to create more quality chances. Tonight they did a tremendous job of implementing the things we worked on in training against a very organized and tough team. It's never easy to win on the road in the SEC, and this is a big three points."
In the 32nd minute, Kennedy Husbands scored her first goal of the 2025 campaign, striking a volley from 30 yards out over the keeper's head. She is the 11th different MSU player to score a goal this year. The program record is 14 goal scorers set three times, most recently by last year's team.
Kyra Taylor added one more for State in the 73rd minute, which was State's SEC-leading 11th goal in the final 20 minutes of a game this year. After Laila Murillo dispossessed a Tiger in midfield, she poked the ball to Perry who dribbled forward and played a long through ball to Taylor. One-on-one with the keeper, Taylor scored in the low left corner of the net.
Perry has now scored in four consecutive matches, which is tied for the third-longest streak in MSU history and the longest by a Bulldog since the 2018 season. It is State's longest ever goal-scoring streak in SEC play. Perry boasts 13 points over the last five games and has scored in every SEC match this season, leading the conference in points per game in league play.
The Frisco, Texas, native's night continued her climb in the Bulldog record book. Perry moved into a tie for sixth in MSU history on Friday, scoring her 19th career goal. She is also sixth in career points (53), and her goal stood as the game-winner. She now boasts 10 career game-winning goals, which trails only MaKayla Waldner (2016-19) in school history, and four winners this year, which is one shy of the Waldner's single-season record that she tied last year.
The assist was also the 16th of Perry's career, which moved her into sole possession of third in program history.
State turned in its fifth shutout of the year and second combined shutout this season. Sarah Wommack made two saves, including stopping a ball on the goal line in the scrum following a Missouri corner. Jenny Harrison played the final 5:28 of the match.
Zimmerman is now tied for second in MSU history for wins by a first-year head coach and one shy of the school record. Only one prior Bulldog head coach has begun his tenure in Starkville with a winning record in his first season.
