State Sends Seven to World Championships

TOKYO, Japan – Mississippi State track and field will have seven former Bulldogs compete in the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, this week. Â
"We are all excited to see our bulldogs at the highest level of this sport," said head coach Chris Woods. "We wish them the best of luck as they go on to represent themselves, their country and our track and field program."Â
Seven Bulldogs will be returning to the World Championships next week: Marco Arop, Anderson Peters, Curtis Thompson, Abdullahi Hassan, Navasky Anderson, Lee Eppie and Sindri Gudmundsson.Â
Arop returns to the world stage as the reigning world champion in the 800m and the Olympic silver medalist at the 2024 Paris Games, where he represented Canada. Boasting a personal best of 1:41.20, the fourth fastest 800m time in history, Arop returns to the championships ranked second in the world. Hassan, also representing Canada, and Anderson, competing for Jamaica, return to the world championships after qualifying for the 2023 Championships but not advancing to the final.Â
State will have a trio of former Bulldogs competing in the javelin at the World Championships. Anderson Peters returns to the championships as a two-time world title holder, winning in 2019 and 2022. Curtis Thompson, the five-time USATF javelin champion, will compete at his third World Championships, representing Team USA. Sindri Gudmundsson will make his world stage debut, representing Iceland in the javelin. Â
Lee Eppie rounds out the Bulldogs competing at Worlds. Eppie is set to toe the line in the men's 400m, representing Botswana. He is also in the relay pool for the men's 4x400m, to be held on the final day of competition. Â
