Cross Country Secures Win In Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Mississippi State cross country opened the season at the Twilight XC Classic with a team win and a new program record.
The Bulldogs sent seven athletes to the line, with three earning top 10 finishes.
Naomi Jepleting was the first to cross the line for State, finishing second in the 5k in 16:55.72 in her cross country debut. Her time is the new program record in the 5k and the fastest time run by a Bulldog in 11 years over the distance.
Next to cross the line was Nelly Jemeli, finishing third in 17:11,57. She was followed closely by Brooklyn Quanz, who ran 17:46.46 to finish seventh for a new personal best. Both times fall on the MSU top 20 all-time list in the 5k.
The final two scorers were Kaitlyn Burge, who finished in 13th, and Madelyn Keating, who finished 19th. Both athletes earned personal bests over the distance.
The final two Bulldogs to cross the line were Trinity Holland and Sophie Santucci, both serving as State's displacers.
Cross Country will return to action in the Southern Showcase on September 12 in Huntsville, Alabama.
