Goold, Malau’ulu, Shaw To Play With National Teams This Summer

STARKVILLE – A trio of Bulldogs will play with their respective national teams this summer beginning on June 27. Incoming signee Peja Goold will pitch for Colombia at the Pan American Championships, alumnus Chloe Malau'ulu will compete with the American Samoa at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau and assistant coach Zac Shaw is scheduled to compete with the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2025 WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Finals and The World Games.
Goold, who is joining the Bulldogs after a standout season at Chattanooga that saw her earn Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year and NFCA First Team All-Region honors, will open play at the Pan American Championships in Monteria, Colombia, on Friday, June 27. Colombia is scheduled to face Canada at 9 p.m. CT to open pool play. The Colombians will face Chile at 8 p.m. on Saturday before a doubleheader with Argentina and Peru beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Bracket play will begin on June 30.
Malau'ulu will step away from her professional season with the Orlando Monarchs to represent her Samoan heritage this summer. The 12th Pacific Mini Games will see softball competition begin on Monday, June 30, with Malau'ulu and American Samoa playing at 8:30 p.m. against the Federated States of Micronesia. Pool play will continue through July 7 with all seven nations competing at the event facing each other once. Malau'ulu's schedule then includes games against Guam, Papua New Guinea, Palau, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands. Medal games will be contested on July 8.
Shaw's summer begins at the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Finals in Prince Albert, Canada on July 8. He captained Team USA during last year's WBSC World Cup Group Stage that saw Team USA go 6-0. Team USA will begin their World Cup pool play against Australia at 5:30 p.m. on July 8. They will then face Japan and the Dominican Republic. Bracket play will begin on July 11 with the World Championship game scheduled for July 13.
The schedule for The World Games in Chengdu, China, in August is very similar. Both events feature eight-nation fields, and Argentina, Australia, Japan and Venezuela along with the United States will play in both. The Americans' World Games schedule begins with Canada on Aug. 5, followed by Singapore and Australia to round out pool play. Bracket play begins Aug. 9 with the gold medal game set for 12 a.m. CT on Aug. 10.
Mississippi State's national team history now includes representation from six nations. Nine players in program history have represented the United States in international competition at some level, and current or former Bulldogs have now played for Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and American Samoa on either junior national teams or full national teams. Two members of MSU's program history have served on Team USA coaching staffs around the world.
