STARKVILLE – National honors continue to roll in for Mississippi State's Ace Reese.
On Friday, the Bulldogs' sophomore third baseman was selected as a second team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings. It marks the third All-America honor for Reese this week after being named a first team choice by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association along with teammate Noah Sullivan and a third teamer by Perfect Game.
Reese was also invited to training camp for the USA Baseball Collegiate National team along with incoming transfer pitcher Tomas Valincius. The Collegiate National Team Training Camp will be held from June 29-July 3 in Cary, N.C. with the team announced at the conclusion. Since 1984, a total of 21 Diamond Dawgs have represented MSU on the Collegiate National Team with pitchers Jackson Fristoe and Landon Sims, catcher Logan Tanner and coordinator of baseball player development Bobby Austin last doing so in 2021.
Reese started 57 games at third base for the Bulldogs this past season, his first at State. The Canton, Texas native led the team and finished in the top 10 in the Southeastern Conference with a .352 batting average, 80 hits, 18 doubles, 21 home runs, 66 RBIs, 163 total bases and a .718 slugging percentage. He also produced 25 multi-hit games, 20 multi-RBI games and five multi-homer games.
Earlier this week, the ABCA tabbed Reese as South All-Region first team selection while Sullivan garnered second team honors.
In addition to all his other accolades, Reese was also named the SEC Newcomer of the Year and to the All-SEC first team. He was also a finalist for the Ferriss Trophy and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.
In its storied history, Mississippi State has generated 58 All-Americans that have earned 162Â All-America honors, without accounting for Freshman All-America awards. Last year, pitcher Khal Stephen was selected as a third team All-American by the ABCA.
