
State Signs Ammon To Bolster Bullpen

STARKVILLE – Leila Ammon, who earned Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors and was the league's Freshman of the Week three times, will join Mississippi State after spending her first season at Middle Tennessee.

Ammon was the Blue Raiders' most-used pitcher this season, throwing 136.2 innings over 30 appearances. She led the team with 91 strikeouts, eight complete games and nine wins. Her best outing of the year came against the Bulldogs when she held then-No. 19 MSU to two runs in a complete game performance.

"We are thrilled to add Leila to our pitching staff for the upcoming season," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "She brings experience and a lot of innings pitched as a true freshman last season to round out our bullpen. I am looking forward to seeing Leila continue to grow in our program and under the guidance of Taryne Mowatt-McKinney."

The Gulf Breeze, Florida, native has also seen time at the plate, posting a .227 average on the year with one home run and a pair of multi-hit games. Her two-way talents were on display in Middle Tennessee's series with Kennesaw State and Liberty this year. Against the Owls, she first tossed 6.0 innings in the circle before homering the next day, and while facing the Flames, she allowed one earned run in 6.0 innings to earn the win before going 2-for-3 at the plate in the series finale.

In high school, Ammon was named 2024 Florida Athletic Coaches Association Player of the Year and the 2023 PNJ Pitcher of the Year. She was a three-time all-state selection and three-time district champion while break the school's career record with 673 strikeouts. She posted a career 1.72 ERA over 402.2 innings and boasted a career .361 batting average.
