Jovanovic & Sanchez Martinez Earn ITA All-American Honors
May 29, 2025 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men's tennis duo of Petar Jovanovic & Benito Sanchez Martinez were named ITA All-Americans in doubles for the 2024-25 season. This is the third doubles All-America honor for the duo.
Â
All-America recognition is awarded to doubles teams who win the ITA All-American Championship, reach the NCAA Championship quarterfinals, or finish in the top 10 in the final ITA National Doubles Rankings.
Â
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez earned their All-America honor after ending the 2024-25 season ranked No. 2 in the nation in doubles. Their first All-America award came in May of 2024 when the pair advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships. In the fall of 2025, as part of a two-year pilot program between the NCAA and the ITA, the NCAA Individual Championships were held in the fall for the first time during the 2024-25 athletic year, rather than following the team championships in the spring. Players qualified through four ITA invitationals from September to November, where Benito and Petar earned their second honors.
Â
During the 2024-25 season, the duo proved to be one of the best doubles teams in America, earning the No. 1 overall rank multiple times throughout the season. This past spring season, they earned a record of 22-1, all at the No. 1 position, with a perfect 12-0 SEC record. Their 22 dual doubles wins set a program record, and their winning percentage of .960 (22-1) was the highest mark in school history. The pair also earned First Team All-SEC honors following the season.
Â
For the full calendar year, they posted a 33-4 overall record. Their 33 wins set a new program record for doubles wins in a season. In their Mississippi State careers, the pair have racked up 58 doubles victories, the most by a single doubles pair in school history.
