Men’s Tennis Falls To Stanford in NCAA Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas – The Mississippi State men's tennis season came to a close Friday, falling to No. 4 Stanford 4-3 in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
After losing the doubles point for just the fourth time all season, Mississippi State lost on courts five and four to fall into an early 3-0 hole to No. 4 Stanford. After a come-from-behind victory on court one by Petar Jovanovic, the Bulldogs were ready to mount a comeback.
Needing to win on three courts to reach the winning four-point mark, the Bulldogs were up 5-4 in the third set on courts six, one and three. On court six Mario Martinez Serrano earned the Bulldog's second point of the afternoon, and within seconds, on court one, Benito Sanchez Martinez earned the 6-4 set three win to tie the match at three all.
With the entire stadium watching court three, true freshman Niccolo Baroni had the whole season on his back. Stanford's Max Basing was able to force a third set tiebreak before ending the Bulldogs season by winning the tiebreak and the match, 7-6 (5).
