Bair Voted SEC Outdoor Track And Field Scholar-Athlete Of The Year
May 14, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State combined events standout Peyton Bair was named the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in a vote by the league's head coaches.
"Peyton is an amazing athlete and an even better student," said head coach Chris Woods. "He works tirelessly on his craft both on and away from the track and field. I'm so proud of Peyton and all the things that he's accomplished! It is great for Peyton and his family, our track and field family, and the Mississippi State family."
Bair completed the sweep in the award for the 2025 season, being named both the Indoor and Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
In addition to being a two-time SEC Scholar-Athlete, Bair is a three-time SEC Honor Roll awardee. As a Dean's List student, he has earned a 3.40 cumulative GPA while working towards a Bachelor of Biological Sciences with concentrations in pre-medicine and physical therapy.
Bair put up a stellar performance in his only decathlon performance of the season thus far, earning 8,111 points earlier this season. This point total was the conference, collegiate and world lead at the time. He still leads the conference in the event by over 600 points.
In his first two years in Starkville, Bair undoubtedly solidified himself as the greatest decathlete in MSU history.
This accolade adds to Bair's extensive 2025 season resume, including the indoor heptathlon NCAA title and multiple awards and recognitions throughout the indoor and outdoor season.
As the second State athlete to win the award since its inception, Bair is the first Bulldog to win two Scholar-Athlete awards in the same year.
Bair is set to be honored at the conclusion of the SEC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Kentucky, later this weekend.
