April 30, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Head coach Sam Purcell announced the signing of Awa Fane on Wednesday, becoming the fourth portal addition for the Bulldogs this spring.
Fane heads to Starkville after spending two seasons at the junior college level at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. In two years, she appeared in 55 games, making 50 starts. She scored 16.7 points per game, 4.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game across her two seasons, including shooting 80.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Fane is coming off a standout season, as she collected numerous NJCAA honors. She was named the Region XIV Player of the Year, making her the first player from Panola College to earn the honor in over 20 years. She led the region in scoring throughout the regular season, while also leading Panola in steals and assists.
Fane was also named to the Region XIV All-Conference and All-Region Teams. She also made waves in the national scene, as she was named an NJCAA First Team All-American. Fane will become the second NJCAA All-American to come to Starkville in the past two-seasons, joining Destiney McPhaul.
Fane joins Saniyah King, Trayanna Crisp and Kharyssa Richardson as transfer additions to Purcell's '25-26 roster. Also joining next year's squad are three top 100 espnW prospects: Jaylah Lampley (No. 38), Madison Francis (No. 39) and Nataliyah Gray (No. 95). The trio ranked 10th in ESPN's Top 25 Recruiting Class Rankings, which was the second-best class in program history behind the sixth-ranked 2019 class.
