
Chaffin Twirls Gem To Pick Up 20th Win; State Takes Series At Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind a complete-game, 11-strikeout shutout performance from Raelin Chaffin, No. 17 Mississippi State cruised to a series-clinching 5-0 victory at Kentucky on Sunday.
Chaffin is just the eighth pitcher in program history to win 20 games in a season and the first to do so since 2015. It was her second complete game of the series, and she finished with 19 strikeouts across 14.0 innings.
Jessie Blaine opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first. From there, the Bulldogs (35-15, 11-10 SEC) used their outs productively to add three more runs. Ella Wesolowski's ground out in the first scored a third run. Nadia Barbary hit a sacrifice fly in the second, and Morgan Stiles plated another on a fielder's choice after beating out a potential double play in the fourth.
Barbary extended her hitting streak to a career-long nine games, and she now leads the team with 21 RBIs in conference play. Sierra Sacco and Kiarra Sells both added doubles, and State is now 62-12 when Sacco scores a run.
Jessie Blaine – Drove in a pair of runs in the first … now has eight multi-RBI games on the year … extended her hitting streak to a season-long six games.
Raelin Chaffin – Threw her 16th complete game to earn her 20th win … became first Bulldog to win 20 games in a year since Alexis Silkwood in 2015 and just the eighth in program history … posted her fourth shutout of the year with a season-high-tying 11 strikeouts, no walks and only three hits … retired eight consecutive batters in the second through fifth innings, including six straight strikeouts … threw two complete games in the series, striking out 19 while walking four … now has 173 strikeouts this season, which ranks seventh in program history … 16 complete games ranks 11th in MSU single-season history.
Riley Hull – Batted .667 (8-for-12) in the series with a double, a walk and an RBI … entered the series 1-for-9 in her career against the Wildcats and is now 9-for-21 (.429) with three walks … recorded a multi-hit game in every game of the series and now has five this year.
Sierra Sacco – Reached three times and scored twice … MSU improved to 62-12 when she scores a run … double gave her 28 extra-base hits this season after entering the year with 27 total for her career.
Morgan Stiles – Drove in a run in every game of the series … also walked, was hit by a pitch and scored on Sunday.
Sierra Sacco drew a walk, and Nadia Barbary singled through the left side to open the ballgame. Kylee Edwards reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop that saw Barbary retired and Sacco reach third. Edwards then stole second before Morgan Stiles walked to load the bases. Jessie Blaine singled to center to score Sacco and Edwards. Stiles advanced to third on the play. Blaine then stole second before Ella Wesolowski grounded out to second on a high chopper that allowed Stiles to score.

Riley Hull opened the frame with a single through the right side and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kiarra Sells walked, and Sacco reached when her sacrifice bunt attempt was not fielded cleanly. With the bases loaded, Barbary hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Hull.
