April 10, 2025 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Head coach Sam Purcell announced his first addition out of the transfer portal on Thursday, signing Kharyssa Richardson from Ole Miss.
Richardson, a 6-2 forward from Douglasville, Georgia, spent her sophomore and junior seasons in Oxford. During that time, she averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. She finished in double-figures nine times over her two years at Ole Miss, including a career-high 21 points against Tennessee on January 28, 2024.
Prior to her time in Oxford, Richardson began her collegiate career at Auburn. As a freshman, she averaged 7.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals and blocks per game. She led the Tigers with 24 blocks on the season and ranked second in rebounds per game.
Before making the jump to college, Richardson averaged 18.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.9 blocks and 1.2 assists in her senior season at New Manchester High School. She was a Georgia 5A All-State selection in 2021.
Richardson is the first portal addition to Purcell's '25-26 roster. Also joining next year's squad are three top 100 espnW prospects: Jaylah Lampley (No. 38), Madison Francis (No. 39) and Nataliha Gray (No. 95). The trio ranked 10th in ESPN's Top-25 Recruiting Class Rankings, which was the second-best in program history behind the sixth-ranked 2019 class.
