BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State track and field closed out day one of the Battle on the Bayou with two program records falling, both broken by freshman.
The day began in the women's hammer, with Marie Rougetet entering the field as the top-seeded thrower. She sits 0.07 seconds behind No. 3 and less than a second off the program record in the event. Aaron Fortenberry extended his outdoor personal best and MSU No. 4 all-time mark in the pole vault, jumping 5.00m.
Jaitlyn Ware matched her best and MSU No. 5 all-time 200m mark, running 23.44 to finish 10th overall. The women's steeplechase had a solid showing, with Louise Stonham finishing as the top collegian in the event. Brooklyn Quanz finished closely behind with a 13-second personal best, running 10:31.67.
The day closed in the women's 5000m, with Naomi Jepleting making her collegiate debut in the event.
