Dawgs Drop Match One of StarkVegas Classic

STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a tough battle against Michigan in their home opener. State held all three sets within three points, but failed to come out on top, dropping the match 3-0.Â
The Bulldogs sought after a win in set two, jumping ahead of the Wolverines early on. State held the lead the entire set until a block by Michigan tied it. The Bulldogs failed to regain the lead and fell to the Wolverines 26-24. Â
Kailin Newsome and Arianna Beckham led the team with 11 kills each. Newsome also picked up her third double-double in just three games. Karli Schmidt and Amina Shackleford combined for 14 kills, and Arissa Smith hit .750 on four attacksÂ
Cayley Hanson tied her career high with 19 assists and picked up seven digs. Ceci Harness tallied 17 assists on the night as well. Â
On the back line, libero Mary Neal picked up 12 digs on the night and collected one of the Bulldogs' two aces. Newsome and Mele Corral-Blagojevich both tallied 10 digs each.Â
The Bulldogs will be back in action at The Griss on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Notre Dame. The game can be streamed live on SEC Network+.
