Diamond Dawgs Take Down No. 4 Texas A&M 5-3

HOOVER, Ala. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs had a clutch hit by Connor Hujsak in the ninth inning for the second straight night. On Tuesday night, Hujsak gave the Dawgs a lead and MSU defeated Texas A&M, 5-3, to keep the momentum going in the SEC Tournament. This was the second win of the tournament for the Dawgs.
The Bulldogs got out to an early 3-0 lead after three innings of play as the Dawgs scored on a wild pitch and a two-run home run by David Mershon. The Aggies chipped away and tied the game at 3-3, which would be the score until the top of the ninth when Hujsak came up big again in the ninth with a two-run RBI single to win the game for State.
Mershon was hot at the plate for the Diamond Dawgs as he ended the night 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and two RBIs. Amani Larry also picked up three hits in his five plate appearances in the game. Hujsak added two RBIs with his ninth-inning single.
Khal Stephen earned the start on the mound. Stephen put in five innings of work and punched out four Aggies. Tyson Hardin picked up an inning of relief work and struck out one. Nate Dohm struck out a single batter in his two innings of work to grab his fourth win of the season. Tyler Davis picked up his fifth save this season after an inning of work and a punchout.
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action tomorrow to face Vanderbilt. First pitch is set for approximately 8 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on SEC Network.
