Diamond Dawgs Top North Alabama, 8-4

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Bulldogs earned their 34th win of the season with an 8-4 victory over North Alabama on Tuesday night at Dudy Noble Field. The Dawgs were led by Joe Powell, who had three home runs and drove in six runs.
The Dawgs picked up ten hits and eight RBIs to top the Lions. Powell had a monster night at the plate, knocking out three home runs, and is the first player since March 11, 2023, to hit three homers in a game. The last player to do this for MSU was Ross Highfill against Lipscomb. Powell ended the game with six RBIs and a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate.
David Mershon added two hits and an RBI for the Dawgs.
Nate Dohm picked up the midweek start, went two innings, and punched out a pair of Lions. Colby Holcombe added three strikeouts for the Diamond Dawg pitching staff in his two innings pitched. Luke Dotson grabbed a 1 1/3 innings and surrendered a single run. Cam Schuelke led the pitching staff with six strikeouts in his 3 2/3 innings pitched on his way to his fourth win of the year.
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action for the final series of the 2024 season against Missouri. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday with Saturday slated for 2 p.m. All three games will be aired on SECN+.
