STARKVILLE – State (3-1-1) faced a hard-fought battle against Iowa (4-0-0) on Thursday night, narrowly succumbing with a final score of 1-0. The thrilling match unfolded under the lights of the MSU Soccer Field as the Dawgs fought till the very end in their third match of a four-game home stand.
The early moments of the game saw Iowa's Shae Doherty strike a goal at the 7-minute and 50-second mark, putting Iowa in the lead. Despite the relentless efforts of State, Doherty's goal remained the pivotal point that separated the teams.
The Bulldogs fired off a total of nine shots, with five of those shots forcing the Iowa goalkeeper, Macy Enneking, into action. Aitana Martinez-Montoya was on the attack throughout, firing off four shots throughout the match accounting for three of the five that were on target for MSU.
