Bulldogs Fall In Baton Rouge
April 23, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State softball fell to No. 15 LSU, 8-0, on the road in six innings.
Â
Riley Hull and Chloe Malau'ulu had hits for State (24-22, 3-14 SEC). Paige Cook stole a pair of bases after being walked. It was the first multi-steal game by a Bulldog since Feb. 28 when Brylie St. Clair swiped two against Mississippi Valley State. Cook is now tied for the team lead with seven stolen bases this year.
Â
Malau'ulu finished the series with a .500 batting average and an 1.100 slugging percentage. She had five hits with a double, triple and home run during State's stay in Baton Rouge.
Â
"The message is to keep fighting. We're not out of innings yet, not out of chances yet," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "We still have games in front of us, and it's about finding a way with our backs against the wall to refocus and right the ship."
Â
Danieca Coffey hit a leadoff single up the middle. Ciara Briggs then reached on a throwing error by the third baseman that allowed Coffey to reach third. Taylor Pleasants flied out to left, moving Briggs to second. Georgia Clark hit a ground ball to the shortstop, and the throw came home. It hit Coffey trying to score and ricocheted into foul ground. That allowed Briggs to come home as well.
