Bulldogs Drop Series Finale In College Station
April 10, 2023 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mississippi State lost the series finale at No. 24 Texas A&M, 5-1, on Monday night.
The Aggies (25-13, 8-7 SEC) scored two runs in the first with the help of a Bulldog error, but State answered in the third. Paige Cook doubled before taking third and scoring on two separate wild pitches. Texas A&M scored two more on a two-out triple in the fourth, and the Aggies picked up a fifth run on a double in the fifth.
"We're in the middle of some adversity right now, both with a few injuries and our results at the plate lately," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "But this gives us an opportunity to learn from our mistakes, so we can avoid them later in the year. I liked seeing a more aggressive approach today. That's something that's been missing that we've talked about a lot lately. We still have a lot to play for. We've been in these situations before, but we learned from them and were a better team late in the season because of the adversity we had gone through."
For State (23-16, 3-8 SEC), Aquana Brownlee also had a hit and a walk. Macy Graf, who had reached in every SEC game this season, found her way aboard on an error to open the game.
Reis Beuerlein started in the circle and went 3.2 innings. Matalasi Faapito and Aspen Wesley also saw action in relief.
Aquana Brownlee – Singled and drew a walk.
Paige Cook – Doubled and came around to score on a wild pitch.

With one out, Koko Wooley doubled to right-center field. She advanced to third on a base hit by Trinity Cannon. Julia Cottrill then grounded out to third, and Wooley broke for home, scoring when the throw was wild. That also allowed Cannon to advance to third. After Rylen Wiggins walked, Morgan Smith singled through the right side to score Cannon.
