Soccer Falls To Lipscomb To Begin Home Opening Weekend
August 26, 2016 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – In front of a great Friday night crowd, the Mississippi State soccer team (1-2-0) fell just short of coming out on top in its home opener as Lipscomb (2-0-1) prevailed 1-0.
Lipscomb has now defeated back-to-back Southeastern Conference opponents after tonight's win and last Sunday's 2-0 victory against Vanderbilt. The Bison continue their SEC swing on Sunday as they take on Ole Miss in Oxford.
In the 15th minute of the contest the Bison got on the board following a Natalie DuBoise corner kick that found Ellen Lundy for the score. The goal was the first on the season for Lundy as Lipscomb rode the early momentum for the win.
"Give credit to Lipscomb tonight, they fought hard and earned the win," head coach Aaron Gordon said. "We were unlucky in the attacking third and couldn't get over the hump tonight. It's always hard to come out for your home opener and get over the jitters, but we have to move on and focus on UT Martin."
The Bulldogs face the Skyhawks of UT Martin on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, to complete the home opening weekend.
Bulldogs Outshoot Bison:
MSU outshot Lipscomb by a wide margin on Friday night, as State took 18 to Lipscomb's 6. During the contest the Bison only had two shots on target, with one going in, to MSU's nine.

LIP – (15:32) Junior Ellen Lundy scored the game-deciding goal after she connected on a set play.
